Boy, 11, dies in horror house fire. Mum, sisters escape

UPDATE, 11AM: Forensic investigators are trying to piece together what started a deadly blaze which killed one person and sent three others to hospital.

Five fire crews were sent to Hilliup Street around 11.30pm after receiving the call about the house fire at 11.21pm.

When they arrived, the house was well alight.

The fire was extinguished at 2.05am.

The blaze killed one 11-year-old boy, who was unable to escape the flames.

A 44-year-old woman was taken to hospital after suffering burns.

A 13-year-old and a 10-year-old were also taken to hospital for observation.

The tragedy has struck the quiet street and surrounding Centenary suburbs.

Jamboree Ward Councillor Matthew Bourke has asked the community to rally behind the family.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the mother and her two daughters at this difficult time," Cr Bourke said.

"I would encourage the local community to rally and get behind the family to help them recover from this tragic event."

Mt Ommaney MP Tarnya Smith has also extended her sympathies to the family.

"I am deeply saddened to hear that a house fire in Westlake last night claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy and has left a mother and a father without a son and sisters without a brother," Mrs Smith said.

"On behalf of our local community, my deepest sympathies go out to the local family, loved ones, neighbours and friends of these local residents who are heartbroken today.

"My message to the family, neighbours and friends is that you are in our thoughts and prayers, and let me know if you need any assistance at this time.

"Mrs Smith has also thanked the police, fire and emergency service personnel who attended the fire.

"Our frontline personnel put their lives on the line to serve and protect our community and I thank them for their service, who are no doubt also hurting today."

More to come.
