Bosnich: Sydney FC should fear the Roar
BRISBANE Roar may not be wearing the maroon jersey when they take on Sydney FC tonight, but you can guarantee the maroon spirit will be there for all to see.
There's always something special when sporting teams from Queensland and NSW clash and this encounter will be no different.
I've always admired the pride and the passion that Queensland sides play with - they embrace the underdog mentality and have a never-say-die attitude.
And that's what the Roar need to do tonight.
The last time these sides met things turned ugly fast for the Roar.
When Adam Le Fondre found the back of the net in the seventh minute of their Round 9 clash, the writing was on the wall for the Roar.
By the time the teams went in for oranges at half-time the game was dead and buried with Sydney FC leading 3-0 on their way to a 5-1 victory.
Since that Round 9 match, Sydney FC have been on an unbeaten run that has them sitting pretty at the top of the A-League ladder, while the Roar come into the game off the back of a five-game unbeaten run.
For Brisbane to turn around their Round 9 fortunes, they need to hit the ground running and put Sydney FC on the back foot early.
The form of Mirza Muratovic and Scott McDonald in the past few weeks would be pleasing coach Robbie Fowler.
There's no denying the Roar's attack looked stunted at times at the start of the season, but over the past month they've been attacking with more fluency and started to complete set plays in the final third.
For Sydney FC to get the win, it's simple, more of the same.
Steve Corica deserves a ton of credit for what he's done with the Sky Blues this season.
When you watch Sydney FC play, it easy to see why they find themselves at the top of the ladder.
They can and will attack you from anywhere and everywhere, they lead the league in goals scored and have conceded fewer goals than any other team in the competition.
Their record at home is also an imposing one with the Sky Blues on a 12-game unbeaten streak at Jubilee Stadium.
But if there's one thing that history has taught us, it's never write off a Queenslander.
If the Roar can control Sydney early and snare the first goal, they'll be tough to run down.
The Roar may be wearing their orange kit this weekend, but the maroon spirit will be burning deep inside of each and every player.
