Body of missing kayaker found

POLICE have found a man's body at Selma Weir, near Emerald in Central Queensland, which is understood to be that of a kayaker missing since April 15.

Emerald man Michael William Barnes, 30, was kayaking with his friend Michael McLucas when they were sucked under water near the weir on Sunday.

Mr McLucas managed to swim to safety while the Mr Barnes could not be found.

Ground, water and air searches commenced after the man was reported missing and have been continued across subsequent days.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner on the death.
