Blokes sing out against cancer

FIVE award-winning choir groups are set to entertain in style at the upcoming Barbershop for Blokes fundraising concert.

Ipswich's own Miner Chords will perform at the event, which will donate proceeds towards the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Howard Kennedy, from the Miner Chords, said the concert hoped to reignite interest in barbershop singing and raise awareness for an important cause.

"We want to maintain Ipswich's connection to barbershop and get a few more members," he said.

"Prostate cancer is also something which has affected our group. A few members have had it or have had prostate issues.

"We would like to try and roll this out regionally through Barbershop Harmony Australia.

"It's a great way to raise awareness and to remind blokes to have their prostate checked regularly."

The Barbershop for Blokes concert will be held on Saturday, November 14, from 7-9.30pm at the Old Court House, cnr Roderick and East sts.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for concession.

To book tickets, phone Howard on 0431 689 054.
