BLAIR: Pat Walsh, The Greens
I AM convinced that society is on the cusp of finding a new path to a bright and sustainable future based on clean green renewable energy, fair treatment of all members of society, respect for our environment and open and transparent politics.
It is this conviction that drives me to stand up for the people of Blair in the 2016 Federal election, so that together we can tackle discrimination, reverse economic disadvantage, increase health and education funding, improve public transport, repair environmental degradation, and remove donations and corporate influence from politics.
I moved to Ipswich from London 16 years ago with my wife Teresa and three beautiful children, and I have learned to love this proud, passionate and caring community.
As a family we have been fortunate to be connected to a number of the church, sporting and cultural associations that make Ipswich a special place to live and raise children. These community groups build the resilience that Ipswich is famous for.
I have worked as an accountant and have seen how economics has driven and warped our attitude to the environment and our neighbours in the community, as if people and the planet were somehow expendable. These misguided attitudes have been allowed to thrive because of undue influence from vested interests and super-rich donors, and it is clear to me that the Greens, with our inspirational leadership team, are opening eyes and creating change.
