Blacksoil overpass to open on August 10

The new Tom Fountain overpass, linking Wulkuraka Connection Road and the Brisbane Valley Highway at Blacksoil will open to traffic from Sunday August 10.

The overpass will be a huge relief for anyone who has to endure the long peak hour traffic jams turning right off the Warrego to get to Fernvale and beyond.

In the lead-up, Wulkuraka Connection Road will be closed temporarily at the Warrego Highway connection from 5pm, Saturday August 9 to 5am, Sunday August 10.

Light vehicles will be detoured via Haigslea-Amberley Road and Karrabin-Rosewood Road during the closure.

Permanent access will be maintained for Eleazar Drive. Nearby businesses and local residential access on Wulkuraka Connection Road will remain the same except the road will end in a cul-de-sac.

From Sunday 10 August the overpass will provide access between Wulkuraka Connection Road and Brisbane Valley Highway and the existing right hand turn off the Warrego to the BVH will be closed.

Signals will then control all traffic movements on either side of the overpass.

Westbound motorists on the Warrego Highway wanting to access Wulkuraka connection Road and Brisbane Valley Highway will use a new exit about 500 metres after the new overpass.

The overpass is named for local businessman Tom Fountain who ran Brassall Motors for many years and whose garage and mechanics shop used to be on the site of the $93 million road development.
