CHAMPION fullback Billy Slater will play his first game in a Melbourne jersey for nine months against St George Illawarra at AAMI Park tonight.

The Queensland and Australia star, pictured, is back from a shoulder reconstruction, reclaiming his position from young gun Cameron Munster, who injured his knee during the Auckland Nines.

Without the physical toll of playing representative football over the summer, Slater said he was ready to go for round one.

"I've been on the sideline for over eight months now, and like any footy player that is way too long, so I'm looking forward to a game of footy," Slater (pictured) said.

Storm winger Marika Koroibete will play his 50th NRL game in the Emergency Services Cup fixture - in honour of the efforts of Victoria and New South Wales volunteer fire-fighters, and emergency services personnel.

"It (50 games) is a big achievement for me, coming this far. I can't wait to get out there and rip in with the boys," said Koroibete, who played 16 games in three seasons for Wests Tigers before joining Melbourne in 2014.

The Dragons have a horrible record in Melbourne, not winning there since 1999. But coach Paul McGregor said he was confident his team could start 2016 in a positive fashion.

"We've got 18 new faces out of 36 and usually that (them gelling) takes a bit of time, but a lot of the guys knew each other," he said. "Our attitude during pre-season has been outstanding."

The Dragons wound up their pre-season with a 46-10 win over the Warriors.
