Bikeway bridge gets pedal power over the line

PEDAL power is set to reign in Ipswich, with the finishing touches being put on the fourth stage of the Brassall Bikeway.

The last of three new bridges was lowered into place this week, connecting the bikeway from Wulkuraka to Brassall.

City Infrastructure spokesperson Cheryl Bromage said the bikeway would boost cycle travel throughout the Ipswich region.

"The installation of these three 25m steel truss bridges means we are on the home straight as far as the $3 million stage four Brassall Bikeway extension goes," Cr Bromage said.

"Stage four has included the continuation of the 3m-wide concrete bikeway, with construction between Gregory Street, Wulkuraka and Diamantina Boulevard at Brassall.

"As well, LED path lighting has been installed and landscaping works undertaken along the 2.8km extension."

The Brassall Bikeway has already proven popular with cycling enthusiasts and council is now confident Ipswich residents will increasingly adapt to bike travel.

Stage four of the Brassall Bikeway Project was jointly funded by council and the state government.

It is due for completion at the end of June.
