Big sport is now just down the highway
IT'S wonderful living in a country region, but one thing that you miss out on is a host of great sporting entertainment options.
I was once a regular at the big rugby union, league and basketball matches and loved every minute of them.
Unfortunately even driving down for a Bledisloe Cup match became a journey too far for me when I lived four hours out of Brisbane in Hervey Bay.
Another benefit of moving to Ipswich is that the big sporting events have once more become available for me.
On Sunday night I decided to take my family off to see the Big Bash cricket match involving the Brisbane Heat and Adelaide at the Gabba.
It took me exactly 45 minutes from my front door to the time I walked into the Gabba.
Even though both my wife and daughter are far from cricket devotees they loved the razzamatazz that surrounded the Big Bash match.
It reminded me a lot of the national basketball games with music breaking out throughout the game and the commentator hyping up the crowd.
I could see why this is now one of the hottest sporting competitions in the land.
The Heat failed to deliver on the night, but as far as an entertainment package went I thoroughly recommend you take the chance to catch one of these games. The kids especially will love it.
