'Best thing' for country darts

AFTER 33 years playing from various hotels and clubs in the Rosewood area, Country District Darts Association have finally found a new permanent home.

With help from Ipswich City Council, CDDA representatives play their Thursday night competition at the Exhibition Pavilion at the Rosewood Showgrounds.

"This has been the best thing that could ever have happened to country darts,'' association secretary/treasurer Michael Scaysbrook said.

Country darts started in 1982 when pub teams from the Sundowner Hotel, Marburg Hotel, Plainland Hotel, Tarampa Hotel, Glamorganvale Hotel, Rising Sun Hotel, Royal George Hotel, Rosewood Hotel, Walloon Hotel, Haigslea Hotel and the Grandchester Hotel amalgamated to form the Country District Darts Association.

The name Country District Darts Association arose from the fact that it represented all hotels from the country areas it covered.

"Over the ensuing 33 years we played successfully from these and other local venues until, like most other darting associations throughout Queensland, we saw the need to prosper, move forward and expand to cater more successfully to our members by playing from a single venue of our own which we now have,'' Scaysbrook said.

"Our new venue at the Exhibition Pavilion is large and roomy.''

It features 12 fixed dart boards, seating, is fully licenced and offers food.

The CDDA provides weekly tournaments over two series during each year, commencing in early January and ending in early December.

Representatives also participate in numerous inter-association weekend tournaments throughout the year, some of which are hosted in the area.

The CDDA is an incorporated non-profit community based sporting organisation.

"Our goal is to promote darts, both at senior and junior levels throughout the community,'' Scaysbrook said.

The CDDA is affiliated with Darts Queensland, the South Queensland Darts Council and Zone Four Darts Association.

The Thursday night competition consists of four-a-side teams, made up of any combination, females, males or juniors.

The 2015 Second Series is due to commence on Thursday night.
