Berrell has Goodna muscling up for decider against Rosewood
SCOTT Berrell looks after heavy machinery in his day job.
He then directs it in the his role as Goodna Second Division coach in the Ipswich Rugby League.
Today his team takes on unbeaten Rosewood for the Second Division title at the North Ipswich Reserve.
"We're fit and ready to go," Berrell said.
"Hopefully we can get over Rosewood. It will be a tough game but that's why you play finals footy."
Berrell has taken confidence from last time the Eagles met the Roosters.
Goodna lost 12-4 but Berrell knew the Eagles' problems that day were easily rectified.
"We made a lot of mistakes and what-not," he said.
"We're going into the grand final confident.
"Control the ball and muscle up in defence."
It is a simple but effective game plan that serves the big Goodna side well. But it is doubly crucial they stick to it against the unpredictable Roosters.
"We expect them to be quick and fit and fresh and ready to go," Berrell said.
"They seem to train well.
"They can get you on the edges, up the middle or put a kick in.
"You can't really predict it.
"So we need to complete sets, conserve energy and work hard in their red zone."
If they can manage that, Berrell believes his attack can shine.
He has been particularly impressed by the form of fullback Nathaniel Eldridge, who only got moved to the back from the wing when Troy Mathers got injured.
Five-eighth Dan Nuimata and prop Jeff Sefo are other form players Berrell expects to shine on the grand stage.
Berrell has plenty of finals experience to draw on and believes in keeping things simple.
"You turn up and play as hard as you can," he said. "If it doesn't come off, you know you've done your best."
The game will be preceded by a clash between Lowood Tarampa and Redbank Plains in the final of the bottom four from the Second Division.
