ADF cadet, 19, faces court over sexual assault charges

AUSTRALIAN Defence Force cadet Harlan Agresti fronted the ACT Magistrates Court today accused of two sexual assaults.

The 19-year-old from the defence academy in Canberra was granted bail without opposition after being arrested on Tuesday, following reports by two female cadets both also aged 19.

One allegation involved a woman after a night out in Civic in June 2013, while the second was in February this year at another cadet's home in Campbell.

Agresti, on a $10,000 surety bond, was escorted to the academy to collect his personal effects and then travelled to Newcastle where he has been ordered to stay with family.

Agresti's lawyer Alyn Doig said his client would be pleading not guilty. He will re-appear in court on October 30.

The Australian Defence Force Academy, already under pressure to improve the culture at the facility after previous incidents, declined to comment suffice to say that the women involved were receiving support.
