THE Aussie spirit was alive and well out at Colleges Crossing yesterday, with hundreds of people making the most of the wide open spaces for a traditional barbecue.

Big family groups were up before 8am getting the best picnic spot for the day, while others were content with floating along the Brisbane River or just playing some cricket.

Colleges Crossing was a great spot, but anywhere within reach of the water was preferable.

At Springfield's Robelle Domain, there was a community cricket match, talent competition and fireworks display.
