IT WAS an Australian icon of the early 2000s, and now Killing Heidi is about to perform on the Sunshine Coast for the first time since the band's glory days more than a decade ago.

The band will join headline acts like Xavier Rudd, Grinspoon, Ronan Keating, Wolfmother and Baby Animals at the Caloundra Music Festival at Kings Beach this weekend.

Killing Heidi singer Ella Hooper said it would be the first time the band had visited the Sunshine Coast since before the members parted ways in 2006.

"I'm sure we did (visit the Coast) back in the day, but it's probably been 10 years so we're so stoked that we're coming back that way to somewhere so beautiful for such a good festival," Ms Hooper said.

The Caloundra Music Festival performance comes as part of the band's first regional tour since its reunion in November last year.

Ms Hooper said she was most excited to play at festivals like Caloundra, making a change from indoor venues.

"I think it's the community element that I really love about wandering around at a festival, and knowing that you're contributing," she said.

Killing Heidi rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits like Weir, Mascara, Live Without It, and Outside of Me, before breaking up in 2006.

Ms Hooper promised the band would play all the Killing Heidi favourites, including almost the entire Reflector album and all the band's singles.

"We do a few B-sides, we break it down in the middle and get a violin out and a pedal steel guitar for a country vibe," she said.

"It's actually pretty jam-packed."

She had been firmly against the idea of a reunion, believing it would be a step backwards, until late last year.

"I just kept growing up, kept maturing, and started to sort of realise that looking back isn't going backwards - it's acknowledging and celebrating and enjoying something that was an important moment, a powerful moment for me and the fans.

"I loved (the first reunion show), and the response was so strong."

Fans hoping for fresh Killing Heidi tracks shouldn't get too excited, but Ms Hooper said collaborating with her brother and fellow band member Jesse Hooper was a strong possibility.

The pair had worked together on an EP in 2009 under band name The Verses.

"There's not a huge desire to make new material, we're just loving sharing all the old stuff with people who haven't been able to hear it live for 10 years," Ms Hooper said.

"There might be a new Jesse and Ella Hooper music one day, for sure.

"Whether it will be Killing Heidi or another project, I don't know."
