Ipswich and surrounds on storm watch: BoM

IPSWICH residents will have to wait until the weekend for any relief from the stormy and steamy conditions.

Top temperatures in the mid to high 30s are set to persist until Friday however Saturday will come with some relief with highs of 28 degrees.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns storm and rain conditions will stick about for the rest of the working week but disperse north on the weekend.

"There is a similar situation today so we are expecting thunder storms and showers this afternoon with possible severe thunderstorms for Ipswich and the whole South East region," BoM forecaster Annabelle Ford said.

"Tomorrow and Friday there is still going to be the chance of showers and thunderstorms.

"On the weekends that will clear up and things will get a bit cooler. We've got a southerly change coming up on Friday that is going to push the weather north and bring some cooler air."

Ms Ford said the storm potential came with strong wind gusts, hail and heavy rain so the community should keep an eye on the warnings.

High temperatures for the rest of the week:

  • Today: 35
  • Tomorrow: 33
  • Friday: 32
  • Saturday: 28
  • Sunday: 28
