Committee demands answers on NBN rollout

THE parliamentary committee tasked with providing six-monthly updates on the National Broadband Network has asked for more information about the rollout in regional areas.

It was one of the five recommendations contained in the fifth report of the Joint Committee on the NBN, which also included information about the progress of the NBN rollout from July-December last year.

Current issues and events that came to light after the reporting period were also included in the report.

Matters reviewed by the committee included the rollout of fibre, fixed wireless and satellite services, performance reporting, national uniform pricing under the NBN, the potential of private equity to fund the NBN, and workforce issues associated with the NBN rollout.

A dissenting report by Coalition members of the committee raised a number of concerns with the NBN rollout including the recent discovery of asbestos in Telstra pits and cost blowouts.
