"Ape in heels": Racist slur targets Michelle Obama

SHE was front and centre during one of the most toxic US Presidential campaigns in history, yet outgoing First Lady Michelle Obama was almost off-limits once the muck started flying around.

Now a Florida mayor and a property developer are facing demands they resign after referring to Ms Obama as an "ape in heels".

Pamela Ramsey Taylor celebrated the election of Donald trump on Facebook saying, "It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First lady in the White House".

"I'm tired of seeing a Ape in heels."

Florida's Clay County mayor Beverly Whaling responded, "Just made my day Pam".

The post was shared hundreds of times on social media before being deleted.

A petition has now begun to circulate calling on both women to resign.

The women hail from West Virginia which overwhelming supported Mr Trump's election 68.7% to Hillary Clinton's 26.5%.

More than three-quarters of Clay County voters supported Mr Trump.

It comes as the election of the Republican billionaire continues to inspire protests across the country, including school walk-outs in Los Angeles.
