Force Files: Ipswich women prove anything is possible
"ANYTHING is possible."
This is how I finished my column last week in the lead-up to facing a formidable Rockhampton state league basketball team. And possible it was.
Although Rockhampton fired out of the gates and were up 9-0 before we even scored, once we found the basket, we never looked back.
We controlled the game at every turn.
We stuck to our game plan defensively, pushing them out of their comfort zone.
We executed and finished our plays, winning every quarter. And we backed each other.
It was a great team win with everyone contributing on the court whether it was by points, rebounds or effort stats such as diving on loose balls, taking charges, scrambling in defence and cheering enthusiastically from the bench.
We knew we could win, we just didn't realise we could win it by the margin we did. But that just proves what we can do when we put it all together, when we work hard as a team and when we believe in ourselves.
On Sunday, we take on the South West Pirates for a second time this season, in this game at their house.
While we won our last encounter, our inconsistencies were still proving to be a bit of an issue.
However, this time we will be taking into the game with us the confidence we found after defeating Rockhampton.
That confidence, paired with our energy and desire and you've got a recipe for a determined team to win and win well heading into a bye round the following week.
