Man deported for indecency with girl

AN American man will be deported after he pleaded guilty to indecently touching a five-year-old girl.

The 44-year-old man was living on the Sunshine Coast and living with the young girl's mother when the offence happened.

He met the girl's mother on the online role-playing game Wizard101 in March last year and the pair became online friends. The man then moved to Australia to live with the woman.

In October last year, the young girl was sitting on the man's lap watching television when the man forced her hand to touch him inappropriately.

The girl later told her mother. The man was reported to police and forced to leave the house. He was at the Sydney International Airport ready to leave the country when he was arrested.

The man pleaded guilty yesterday in Maroochydore District Court to one charge of indecent treatment of a child under 12.

Judge Gary Long said that the man's offending constituted a breach of trust.

He was sentenced to 18 months' jail, suspended after serving 188 days, making yesterday his release date.

Judge Long said he could not sentence the man to a probation order that would include psychological and other therapies.
