All eyes will be on Strikers' Boyce during crucial BBL match

ADELAIDE Strikers leg spinner Cameron Boyce has a golden opportunity to further impress the Australian selectors in a crucial BBL clash against the Scorchers at Adelaide Oval tonight.

The Queenslander picked up 3-17 against the Hurricanes last Saturday night, including the prized wickets of Ricky Ponting, Tim Paine and Travis Birt.

Australia's selectors are keeping an eye on the 23-year-old Bulls player as they consider taking a third spinner on the coming tour of India.

Despite Pakistani Saeed Ajmal being unavailable, Adelaide will go into the match, where the winner will earn a home semi-final, with four spinners in its 13-man squad.

As well as Boyce, coach Darren Berry has named skipper Johan Botha, returning Test spinner Nathan Lyon and veteran Brad Young.

The Strikers could lose to Perth and still finish fourth provided the Brisbane Heat beats Hobart on Saturday.

Berry said despite opener Phil Hughes being away with the Australian one-day squad, the last-start win over the Hurricanes had given the players a healthy dose of confidence.

"We're coming off a great win and it was a clinical performance from the group, so we take a lot of confidence into Thursday night," Berry said.

"Polly (Hughes) is obviously a loss, but we have always known he had national duties to return to."

The Strikers have brought youngster Travis Head into the squad to replace injured batsman James Smith.

Key Perth batsman Shaun Marsh, the third-leading run scorer in the Big Bash with 249, said he was fully recovered from a minor hamstring strain he suffered last month.

He did cop a nasty blow to his thumb last week against the Hurricanes, but said he would play through the pain tonight.
