Choir welcomes new members

THE Alchemy Street Choir, Ipswich’s answer to the Choir of Hard Knocks, has welcomed a new conductor and pianist.

Arts, community and cultural services committee chairman Charlie Pisasale said the choir had gained the services of conductor Thomas Keenan and pianist Christopher Steinmuller.

Cr Pisasale said both were former Ipswich City Council Master Class students who had gone on to illustrious careers in the performing arts.

“Thomas has had an outstanding vocal career to date and is currently the musical director, in conjunction with George Hogg, of the Ipswich Orpheus Chorale,” he said.

“Christopher Steinmuller was a recipient of a Young Performing Artists bursary from Ipswich City Council as recently as 2008. He has continued his musical career through university and is already an accomplished teacher.”

The Alchemy Choir is seeking more members who are able to rehearse from 5.30 to 7pm on Wednesdays at the Humanities Centre Auditorium, 56 South Street, Ipswich. For more information phone 3810 6655.
