A wave of respect for surfer Al Byrne

SURFERS Against Nature's Destruction will hold a massive fundraiser for the family of Al Byrne, who died as a result of a motorbike crash in Bali on August 8.

More than 1000 friends and supporters, including family members, attended one of the biggest services and paddle-outs on the Gold Coast.

The Festival Of AB will be held on September 14 at Currumbin Creek Tavern from 6pm, with entertainment provided by Aussie rock legends Tumbleweed and supported by Melbourne's Money for Rope, with more top local acts to be announced.

The event will have give-aways and raffles totalling $7000, including a new AB hand-shaped board worth $2000, one of the last to leave his factory, and a $3000 overseas surf yacht charter, courtesy of World Surfaris.

Because of venue capacity, tickets for the event are limited to 400.

Because SAND is operated by volunteers to raise funds for charitable causes, all proceeds from the event will go to AB's family.

Tickets are $50 and will be available at the following local cash payment/ticket collection venues: Hot Stuff Burleigh, Meridian World Travel Burleigh, Byrning Spears Factory Currumbin, World Surfaris (Kirra Surf) Kirra, and Currumbin Creek Tavern at 3 Traders Way, Currumbin Waters.

SAND is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation based on the Gold Coast. It has held surf-related events to raise funds for various charities and community causes since 1984.
