Tailor, flathead certain to lure anglers into weekend frenzy
A VAST number of tailor are being encountered on the beaches off the Gold Coast, in the Seaway and along the exposed beaches of South and North Stradbroke islands.
Tailor are being caught on pilchards or strip baits of bonito or mullet.
When the tailor are close in the northern gutters near the Pumping Jetty, lures can be more productive. Try casting Raiders or heavy lures like the Rapala range.
Flathead are also dominating reports from the Jumpin Pin and Jacobs Well area.
Try soft plastics around the drop offs on the run out tide.
Trolling lures like the Ecogear SX60's or Jackall Soul is a great method for covering more ground and finding larger specimens.
With the recent rain and warmer weather, Maroon Dam has sparked into action.
With an abundance of vegetation present in the freshwater impoundment, the most productive way to fish is from a kayak, canoe or boat.
Light spinning or baitcaster gear is fine with a 4-10lb rod and 8lb braided line being optimum for casting small lures.
If you are willing to rise before the sun, surface lures like the Tiemco Soft Shell Cicada, Megabass Dog X and Luckycraft Sammy 65 are consistent performers in the dam.
These lures cast close to the vegetation or weed beds can lead to some explosive strikes.
