A community divided between broadband haves and have nots

BUNDABERG will be a community divided between broadband haves and have nots under the LNP, according to maps set to be released by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Broadband, Communications, and the Digital Economy Anthony Albanese when he arrives in Bundaberg today.

Construction on the NBN's fibre network has started for 10,900 homes and businesses in Bundaberg but Mr Albanese says if there's a change of government on September 7, that's where the fibre rollout will stop.

According to the minister, areas to miss out on superfast fibre broadband under the Coalition include 13,400 homes and businesses in Ashfield, Bundaberg South, Kepnock, Avoca, Kensington, Avenell Heights, Norville, Millbank, Svensson Heights, Thabeban and Walkervale.

"Under the LNP, Bundaberg will become a town divided between broadband haves and have nots," a release from the minister's office claims.

"Those unfortunate enough to end up in the second group will be left with one of two choices - battle on using last century's copper or fork out as much as $5000 to have fibre connected to their home or business - something others in Bundaberg are currently getting for free under Labor."
