Scams targeting classified ad bargain hunters

WARWICKITES looking to bag a bargain or make a buck using classified ads have been warned to be on the look out for scammers.

Fair Trading Executive Director Brian Bauer said classified ad scams targeting both buyers and sellers are many and varied, but there was some sure-fire ways to spot a con.

"Scammers target buyers by placing fake online or print classified ads for anything from kittens to caravans, at very attention-grabbing prices," he said.

"Once you contact the supposed seller, they will claim to be travelling or have recently moved overseas, and ask you to send an upfront payment in order for the goods to be delivered to you.

"You won't receive your goods, however, and your calls or emails to the scammer will go unanswered.
