Mustang gets into gear for this weekend's show and shine

A CHILDHOOD fascination came true when Toowoomba motoring enthusiast Geoffrey Voll found an affordable 1966 Ford Mustang for sale in the United States.

But what arrived in Mr Voll's driveway was not the magnificent piece of American muscle which now takes pride of place in his garage.

"It was a sad little car when it arrived from the US," he said.

"It was painted all different colours and was in pretty bad shape."

But it had potential.

"Between my brother and I, we stripped the whole thing back until there was nothing else we could take off it," Mr Voll said.

"But once you've stripped back a Mustang, it's actually a pretty easy car to rebuild."

Mr Voll's Mustang will rest amongst a motorcade of classic cars, tractors, trucks and bikes this Saturday at the St Andrew's Hospital Show and Shine.

The show begins at 3pm and entry is $5 with all proceeds going towards the St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital cancer care unit.
