Matildas strike back to beat New Zealand

DESPITE being on the back foot for most of the first half, the Matildas clawed their way back to beat New Zealand 1-0 in Canberra on Thursday night.

The Football Ferns enjoyed the majority of first-half chances, striker Sarah Gregorius producing two impressive early crosses.

But Australia goalkeeper Brianna Davey kept her team in the game with some outstanding saves.

Matildas striker Michelle Heyman scored the winner in the 41st minute, executing a well-worked counter-attacking raid.

The two sides will meet again in Canberra tomorrow in the Centenary Cup.
