Lecturer’s life to be honoured

LOCAL government representatives from across Queensland will commemorate the life of one of the sector's most active and respected academics on Tuesday.

Doug Tucker was a senior lecturer in Local Government at the University of Queensland, a role he held from 1974.

The father of former Sunshine Coast journalist and media consultant Carolyn Tucker, Mr Tucker played a substantial role in many local government developments and assisted many students, council CEOs, councillors and related associations with his learned counsel.

He was the author of Local Government in Queensland, published in three volumes from 1981-3 and often described as the closest publication to an inquiry into local government in Queensland that the sector has ever had.

Mr Tucker was aged 80 when he died on January 7.

The celebration of Mr Tucker's life and service will be hosted in Brisbane by John Campbell.

Those interested in attending should call John on 0419 709 283.
