UPDATE: Brassall Shopping Centre evacuated

UPDATE: FIREFIGHTERS have ruled out fire as the cause of smoke building up at the Brassall Shopping Centre this afternoon.

Several crews were called to the centre on Hunter St about 2.15pm, following reports the shops were beginning to fill with smoke.

Shoppers also reported hearing alarms, and the centre was evacuated.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman says firefighters investigated a computer area and roof space but could find no signs of fire.

The incident has been confirmed as a false alarm.

EARLIER: AN ELECTRICAL fire has resulted in the evacuation of Brassall Shopping Centre.

Fire crews were called to the scene at about 2.30pm after a fire broke out at Smokemart within the centre.

The fire has been contained and is no longer a threat to shoppers or surrounding businesses.
