Australian Muslim leader promises no hate to Islamophobia

A KEY Australian Muslim leader has promised not to meet Islamophobia with hatred.

The president of the Lebanese Muslim Association, Samier Dandan, told thousands of Muslims at Sydney's Lakemba Mosque "their bigotry will not instil hatred in us", the ABC reported yesterday.

He said "we Australians are better than that" and the rise of "Islamophobic discourse" would "not break us or divide us".

Race Discrimination Commissioner Tim Soutphommasane has warned senator-elect Pauline Hanson her anti-Muslim and anti-Asian comments could unleash hatred and violence.
