$5m funding boost for Domain
THE Federal Government will put forward $5 million towards the Robelle Domain Stage 2 in Springfield.
Federal Minister for Regional Australia Simon Crean will visit the parklands this morning to announce the funding, the second round of the Regional Development Australia Fund.
The second stage of Robelle Domain is jointly funded by the Federal Government and Ipswich City Council.
Member for Blair Shayne Neumann said the continued development of Springfield was important for Ipswich.
"This is very exciting for Ipswich City Council and the Springfield Land Corporation," he said.
Mr Crean said $33.6 million from the RDAF would be spent across Queensland.
"With our economy in transition, we have strengthened the role of the nation's 55 Regional Development Australia committees, which played a vital role in working with communities to identify and prioritise projects consistent with regional plans," he said.
"Each of the eight projects in Queensland will build important infrastructure that will serve the community now and into the future.
Divisional councillor and council chairman of parks, sport and recreation Cr David Morrison said he was "absolutely thrilled" the Federal Government was granting the council $5million towards the $15 million stage two of Robelle Domain.
"Robelle Domain is a strategic piece of public open space in south-east Queensland and in particular the ever-growing western corridor," Cr Morrison said.
"I look forward to the State Government committing so we can complete the fantastic public open space."
