$30m lotto prize sets off rush for tickets

THE odds are far from being in their favour, but that's not stopping many Ipswich residents from dreaming big.

A contagious wave of Gold Lotto fever has again swept through the community ahead of this Saturday's Mid-year Mega Draw jackpot of $30 million.

And if that wasn't enough to get lottery fans excited, an Oz Lotto draw will be followed three days later with a chance for players to win $50 million.

North Ipswich News owner Narda Collins said there had been a surge in lottery ticket sales, with plenty of hopefuls lining up for their chance to win.

Mrs Collins said tickets as long as streamers were being bought with some people playing more than 500 games.

"Everyone is out to win," she said. "And the mentality is, the more you buy, the greater your chance is to win. After all, you only need to match one line of numbers to win the jackpot."

But before you start fantasising about what you will spend their millions of dollars on, keep in mind, even if you buy 1000 games your chances of losing are still 99.997%.

Feeling lucky?

  • In Chinese culture, the number eight is particularly lucky, while four and 13 are the most unpopular.
  • Even if you bought 1000 options, your chances of losing are still 99.9977796 per cent.
  • You can pick the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 because they have exactly the same odds as every other number.
