$300,000 upgrade to lift bridge load limit
THE Waghorn St road-over-rail bridge will receive a $300,000 upgrade from the State Government.
Ipswich MP Ian Berry said the central Ipswich bridge had been subject to a five-tonne limit since June due to safety concerns.
Mr Berry said the upgrade will eliminate the load limit, ensuring that residents, business and emergency vehicles can make full use of the crossing.
"I believe Ipswich residents deserve a full strength bridge at the Waghorn St crossing and I am pleased that the Minister has found the savings so that this upgrade could be carried out," he said.
Mr Berry said the upgrade was possible due to savings the LNP government had put in place.
"This is another example where savings found from eliminating waste and duplication in Brisbane can be re-directed to fund important community infrastructure in Ipswich."
The bridge will remain accessible to motorists during the works that are due for completion by the end of October.
The Herbert St timber bridge remains at one lane with a five-tonne load limit until a decision has been worked through with the Ipswich City Council.
