1000-plus brave Rocky River Run
ROCKHAMPTON’S Rocky River Run was a huge success yesterday with more than 1000 runners taking part.
The weekend’s rainy conditions cleared up just in time for the big event, but nothing was going to stop people turning up, joggers and all, ready to run, walk or wheel their way through each course.
Rotary Club of Rockhampton public relations chairman Neil McDonell said the club was “stoked” with the attendance yesterday.
“We’ve had 1049 people register this year and that’s just awesome,” Mr McDonell said.
“We were a bit worried yesterday morning, but then about 50 people came up in the pouring rain to register, which was great and we’ve had a 100 or more register on the day.”
Mr McDonell said the aim next year was to make it bigger and better.
“We’ll be trying to reach a goal of getting 2000 people registered,” he said.
“We’re also planning to make next year a Rocky River Run Festival, so there will be more entertainment for everyone after the run, including rides for the kids.”
Rachel and Chris O’Donohue and their children, Maddy and Kyle, said it was a great day they all enjoyed.
“We got to walk over the railway bridge and onto the other side of the river, which was really fun for myself and the kids,” Rachel said.
“So it was also good for us to see parts of Rocky that we usually wouldn’t.”
