Off-duty police officer injured during scuffle on train

An off-duty police officer, travelling by train to work yesterday afternoon, was injured in the hand during a struggle with a man allegedly armed with a metal instrument.

Around 1.20pm it will be alleged the off-duty officer, a 35-year-old male, has identified himself as a police officer and attempted to arrest the man.

It is further alleged the 40-year-old Zillmere man has resisted arrest and was restrained after a short physical struggle.

The man was allegedly found to be in possession of a knife.

The off-duty officer was treated at the scene for a minor hand injury.

A 40-year-old Zillmere man has been charged with going armed to cause fear, serious assault police, assault or obstruct police, possession of a knife in a public place and evade fare.

The man has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
