Ipswich Sports House executive officer Troy McGrath is keen to build a variety of beneficial sporting relationships.
IN the cut-throat world of sport, it is generally true that the larger organisations dominate.
They have the best network of paid staff and volunteers, attract the most sponsorship and provide the best facilities.
Looking around Ipswich, it's pretty clear which sporting clubs have prospered and which organisations are doing it tough.
However, thanks to the recently formed Ipswich Sports House, the future looks rosier for many regional clubs, especially smaller ones.
By having 10 dedicated sport and recreational officers assessing their needs and providing one-on-one guidance, those battling clubs will surely gain a welcome shot in the arm.
It won't be easy for the officers assigned the responsibility of identifying what's needed and realising club dreams. But their support and expertise should provide longer-term benefits.
Like any growing city, Ipswich needs new sporting facilities and upgrades to keep pace with demand.
With a target audience encompassing Ipswich and "satellite" areas like Springfield and Rosewood, the Sports House team has a challenging area to focus on.
The successful multi-use concept at Redbank Plains Recreational Reserve has shown what can be achieved.
The next venture being rolled out is the Tivoli Sporting Complex, opening new opportunities for clubs.
However, one of the tricky issues is getting the balance right.
As highlighted in the QT last week, concern has been raised about adding two more cricket wickets to the venue when the region already has so many.
Wouldn't it be better to have a larger field without a wicket that could be used for Aussie rules, football and touch - without the added injury risk?
This is just one of the issues the new Ipswich Sports House staff will have to grapple with in future planning.
Ipswich Sports House executive officer Troy McGrath said his specialised group was ready to assess regional needs.
"People are constantly not sure or frustrated because things don't happen," McGrath said.
"Our relationships will grow into all sorts of possibilities."
Time will tell how successful the Ipswich Sports House is.
It has three years of guaranteed funding to present a case why it must be maintained in the future.
Early indications are it will be hugely beneficial.
