Council will extend cheap cabs

Tags: city heart cabs, funding, ipswich city council

CITY Heart Cabs will continue on its beat after Ipswich City Council announced extra funding for the low-cost taxi service program.

The council has given further support to the service to assist the city's senior citizens and community members with a disability and their carers.

Councillor Sheila Ireland said council's City Heart Cabs program was supporting the needs of these residents to access Redbank Plaza, Riverlink and Ipswich City Square at a minimal cost.

Cr Ireland said the Redbank Plaza service was trialled late last year and was so successful it was being extended until the end of the financial year.

She said the service operated in the suburbs surrounding Redbank Plaza was a partnership between council, Redbank Plaza and Yellow Cabs.

This service is funded by Redbank Plaza centre management.

To use the Redbank Plaza service:

  • Call Yellow Cabs on 3363 2373 before midday on the day before travel.
  • The next morning, about 9am, passengers will be picked up and taken to Redbank Plaza.
  • At 12.30pm, passengers will be collected from a designated pick-up area and taken home.

Further information about the program is available by calling 3810 6646 or visiting council's website: ipswich.qld.gov.au.
