A 64-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while mowing the lawn.
A MAN who was hit by a car while mowing his lawn has lost his five-day struggle for life.
The 64-year-old died in the intensive care unit of Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital on Thursday morning.
Police believe he stepped on to the road - and into the path of an oncoming car - while he was mowing the front lawn of a home in Springfield's Greenway Circ at 6pm on Saturday.
He sustained serious head injuries in the crash and underwent emergency surgery at the PA Hospital.
He remained critical until he died on Thursday.
Neighbours described the 64 year old as an active father; a "lovely man" who helped out around the property.
"He lived there with his adult children, and we'd always see him out doing maintenance jobs," neighbour Kathy Gillespie said.
Residents said the event was a "freak incident" that had deeply disturbed members of the friendly community.
"Nothing like this has ever happened in the circuit, and I've lived here for decades," one neighbour said.
"It's just mowing the grass. I can't believe it, I think I'm still in shock," another said on Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle was a 19-year-old man who was not injured in the crash.
One resident said the driver approached him for help after the crash.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are ongoing.
