Eagle Rock Café owners Gary and Denise take the floor during the opening celebrations.
LAIDLEY'S main street was transported back to a more benign era as patrons, young and old, crowded in to celebrate the opening of the town's Eagle Rock Café.
The brainchild of owners Denise and Gary Morris, the new café replaces a former establishment destroyed in the January floods.
With a line-up of classic and custom cars outside and rock 'n' roll music pouring from the jukebox inside, Cr Jim McDonald, representing Mayor Steve Jones, and local member Ian Rickuss did the honours in declaring Eagle Rock officially open on Sunday.
Cr McDonald described the "true values" of Mr and Mrs Morris as home, hard work and honesty.
"If a couple like Denise and Gary are going to go back to work, let the work be something they both love," he said.
On hand to help in the celebrations, the couple's grandchildren Millie, Max and Charlie dressed up for the occasion in 50s style.
Happy to get to re-live their youth were Laidley couple Rob and Jenny Adams who arrived in their magnificent 1963 Compact Fairlane.
Mr Adams said he and his wife grew up in the 50s era and "never quite got out of it".
While taking in the activities going on around her, Mrs Morris said, as she considered ways of resolving her problems following the January disaster, she realised it was all to do with "shutting up and getting on with the job".
