CHRISTMAS light displays are already beginning to spring up on Fraser Coast homes as people are being encouraged to be kind to the environment and their electricity bills.

Light displays can add hundreds of dollars to electricity bills.

Festive homeowners can use LED Christmas lights to save power and only turn the lights on during the evening, when most families are likely to be viewing them.

Ergon Energy advises customers never to set up a display around pools or spas and to use the appropriate indoor or outdoor lights.

People should also use extension cords rather than double adaptors and to always turn lights off when leaving home or going to bed.

Christmas lights are available from all major department stores and discount stores such as Sam's Warehouse and King Kong.

Visit www.ergon.com.au for safety tips on setting up a light display.
