KEEP the Scenic Rim Scenic is planning to take its protest, literally, to new heights.
As part of a national day of co-ordinated action against coal seam gas mining and exploration, on Sunday hundreds of farmers, landholders and their supporters will rally on the Scenic Rim's mountain peaks.
Keep the Scenic Rim Scenic spokesman Innes Larkin said the group was organising to display huge banners, carrying a united "no" message to coal seam gas mining in the region.
"It won't just be residents. Various groups are planning to come from all parts of Brisbane," Mr Innes said.
"The largest banner, about 40.2sq m, is to be lowered down the rock face of Mt French by abseilers," he said.
"Interest has been shown from a few television stations, with a view to fly-bys."
Cleveland resident Ted Wassenberg has been bushwalking in the Scenic Rim for more than 40 years and is planning to attend the protest.
"I am going to be part of the group carrying a large banner to be placed at Mt Barney," Mr Wassenberg said.
"I have established wonderful relationships with the residents in the area.
"I am concerned for the landscape and the water. It (coal seam gas mining) affects real people."
Mr Larkin said participants did not have to be experienced bushwalkers.
"A number of peaks and lookouts, public and private, will be easily accessed by car. Our website has all the up-to-date information," he said.
