A fire on Purga School Rd threatens nearby homes yesterday.
A LARGE grassfire burned close to Purga homes yesterday before firefighters brought it under control.
Raceview’s Tanya Dalby was in Purga caring for an elderly grandmother at the time.
“My kids started screaming: ‘There is a bushfire’ – so we called the fire brigade,” she said.
“It was quite scary.”
Purga’s Stacey Osborne arrived home with her two children to see the blaze. “We just came home from town and saw the fire trucks and smoke – and panicked,” she said. But they appeared to get it under control, she added.
The fire blazed across 20ha after breaking out about 2.30pm. No injuries were reported.
