Irish jig prize winners (from left) Mhairi Gorman, 13, Freya Ramsay, 12, and Brittany Treadwell danced up a storm on Saturday.
THE wee township of Maclean in NSW was taken over by the sights and sounds of all things Scottish on the weekend as the 107th Highland Gathering went ahead with full force.
Chieftain of the Maclean Scottish Association, Peter Smith, was impressed with attendance and could not have hoped for better weather.
“The crowd would have been equal or bigger to any we have had in the last few years, which was pleasing,” Mr Smith said.
The main drawcards of the event were the Pipe Band contest, which attracted pipe bands from all over the state, the spectacular highland games display and the highland dancers.
“Everything ran really smoothly and on time, which I think the crowd really appreciated, and the standard of the competitors this year was phenomenal,” Mr Smith said.
“It truly was a great weekend.”
The results of the 107th Maclean Highland Gathering will be published in The Daily Examiner in coming weeks.
