Free legal advice for flood victims

GRANTHAM residents struggling to get flood insurance claims paid are encouraged to attend a free legal information and advice session at Grantham next week.

Legal Aid Queensland will provide the free information session for flood victims as part of the Grantham community meeting on March 30 from 6pm. The venue is the marquee behind Grantham State School at 15 Victor St.

Legal Aid Queensland consumer protection lawyer Catherine Uhr said people in flood affected areas have a range of legal issues to deal with including insurance, tenancy issues, and access to electricity and other services damaged by the floods.

“We encourage everyone who has flood-related insurance issues to come and talk to us at the Grantham community meeting to find out what their legal rights are, and to see what options are available to assist them with their claims,” Ms Uhr said.

Ms Uhr said that many people were unsure about what to do if their claim was denied.

“People attending the information session can also receive legal information and advice about credit and debt; tenancy; electricity, gas, telephone and water issues; and damage to cars resulting from the floods.”
