Most things old can be new again

WHILE to some it may appear to be simply a zipper or worn pair of jeans, Erin Fordham prides herself on crafting beauty from the ordinary.

WHILE to some it may appear to be simply a zipper or worn pair of jeans, Erin Fordham prides herself on crafting beauty from the ordinary.

The 27-year-old heads up Reskew'd, a small company which creates clothing and accessories out of recycled and repurposed materials, such as earrings from d'oyleys, zippers into rings and denim mini-skirts crafted out of men's jeans.

“I really like the idea of using something old and making it into something new,” Mrs Fordham said.

“Giving life to things which didn't have life before.”

Mrs Fordham said she fully supported a push from Ipswich City Council for residents to try and reduce waste this Christmas.

The 27-year-old sources her materials from op shops and garage sales and throws the pieces together in her home studio, selling her wares through Ipswich's Handmade Expo and online.

Mrs Fordham said she had received positive feedback. “People like the fact it is green and eco-friendly,” she said.

City Works committee chair- person councillor Trevor Nardi said although Christmas was a time of festivities and celebra- tions, people should think of the environment and limit their waste.
