Former Bremer State High School students from 1959 Margaret Campbell, Alan Wallis and Garth Pringle take a walk through the new school site on Warwick Road with Lynette Lenz, a Year 12 student who graduated this November.
FOUNDATION classmates of 1959 have given the new, modern Bremer State High School a tick of approval.
About 30 original students took a guided tour of the new Warwick Road school, next to the University of Queensland Ipswich campus, on Friday.
While 54 days of rain have hindered the $76 million construction, buildings are expected to be ready for day one in 2011.
Foundation student and current school volunteer Alan Wallis said the new facilities were a “100 per cent improvement” on the Blackstone Road complex.
“I still feel proud that I went to Bremer High,” Mr Wallis said.
The student population has grown considerably in half a century.
Bremer started off with a foundation class of 108 students, while this year's numbers reached 1470. Acting principal Corrine McMillan said the purpose of Friday's tour was to bring together the first group of Bremer High students with the Year 12s in 2010 – who were all educated on the original site.
“This new school is a great facility,” she said.
“The opportunity for our students here is just incredible.”
Official opening celebrations in term one will include a relay from the old site to the new school.
Year 12 graduate Lynette Lenz, who left Bremer two weeks ago, was impressed with the new school.
“I think it's great,” she said.
“It's got better facilities.
“I love the old school, but this is much better.”
Last school day at the current Bremer High will be this Friday.
