IPSWICH pet owners are being asked to lock their pets inside on Saturday night as the city sky is lit up by the final F-111 dump-and-burn.

Mayor Paul Pisasale confirmed the city would get possibly the last dump-and-burn in Australia as part of the Mayor’s Christmas Carols to be held at Ipswich Turf Club, Bundamba.

“This is a terrific gesture by the RAAF to offer the City of Ipswich the final dump-and-burn of these amazing aircraft which have called Ipswich home since 1970 and retire from military service this year,” he said.

“Most of Australia’s F-111s have been based at Amberley RAAF Base and have enthralled the public at a host of public events with these spectacular dump-and-burn manoeuvres.”

Cr Pisasale said, however, pet owners should ensure their animals were safely inside.

“This is going to be one loud and spectacular fly past of celebration, and we don’t want the heartache of people losing their pets because they may be frightened by the noise,” he said.

Cr Pisasale said extra council staff would be on duty in case any animals escaped their yards.
