Young boy bitten by wolfhound

AN eight-year-old boy is recovering in Ipswich Hospital after being bitten by a dog at Goodna yesterday.

Police said the dog escaped after its owner opened a gate. It bit a boy from another house who was playing on the footpath outside the Stanley Street residence.

He sustained a significant flesh wound to his chest but was in a stable condition yesterday afternoon.

Ipswich City Council Health and Regulation Committee chairman Andrew Antoniolli said the wolfhound cross was not registered and the owners could face further consequences.

“It is still extremely early stages in our investigations but once we have obtained statements from the victims, witnesses and the dog’s owner, a brief of evidence will be prepared for consideration by our legal people,” he said.

The incident was the seventh dog attack to occur in Ipswich since September and the third in the Goodna area.
