REIGNING Miss Rodeo Canada Britteny Foster will bring an international touch of glamour to the 2010 National Rodeo Finals in Ipswich next week.

Ms Foster, 22, won’t be the only VIP beauty at ringside cheering on the champion bull and bronc riders during the two-night event.

At her side will be current Australian Rodeo Queen Tayla-Maree Johnston and several contenders for the 2010 Rodeo Queen of Australia title.

Speaking from Canada yesterday Ms Foster said she would spend three weeks in Australia from September 14.

The national finals in Ipswich are one of the main events on her itinerary.

Ms Foster said she was “very excited” about the trip.

“This’ll be my first time in Australia,” Ms Foster said.

“I want to discover the countryside and take a walk on some beaches.

“I want to see Sydney and the real country Australia.”

As well as being an avid spectator at rodeos, Ms Foster is also a contestant.

“I’ve been barrel-racing for the past 13 years and grew up on a farm,” she said.

“I’ve been riding horses since before I could walk.

“My passion for rodeos is very strong.

“It’a way of life. I love the action, the sport and the rodeo fans.”

Entries closed this week for the national finals to be held in Ipswich for the third time.

The event at Briggs Road Sporting Complex, 126 Briggs Road, Raceview on Friday and Saturday nights, September 17 and 18, is expected to attract about 4000 rodeo fans.

Prize money worth $30,000 is up for grabs.

Competition categories include the bull ride, saddle bronc ride, bareback ride, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel race and bareback ride.

The event organised by the National Rodeo Council of Australia has been sponsored by Ipswich City Council for the past five years.
