AS the 2010 regular football season comes to an end, two of the three Ipswich City Bulls women’s teams are gearing up for this weekend’s semi-finals.

The Division 3 women moved up the ranks to second spot thanks to a 6-2 win over Narangba United last Saturday.

The win nudged the Bulls ahead of Narangba by one point to 36 points, cementing a home ground semi-final against Narangba this week.

University of Queensland finished on top of the table in the division on 47 points, with North Star rounding out the top four on 29 points.

Hannah Bianchi was consistent throughout the season, topping the goal-scoring for City and finishing second on the divisional goal-scoring ladder.

While the Division 3 girls managed to jump a spot on the ladder in the final fixture, there was no question where City’s Division 7 were going to finish – number one.

The women topped the ladder and rounded out a successful, undefeated season with a 3-0 win over Mitchelton.

The girls finished with an impressive goal average – 73 for and only nine against – as they streaked away from their competitors. Finishing with 52 points, they were well clear of second spot Holland Park Hawks (38), Mooroondu (34) and Brighton (28).

Tiffany Morris, Bronwyn Beatty and Chloe Burbidge dominated the goal-scoring for the division, finishing on second, third and fourth spot overall.

Division 7 coach Len Manwaring said it had been a great year for the women at Ipswich City.

“All three teams have done us proud, especially the Div 7 ladies,” Manwaring said.

“They’ve continued to improve all season and have worked hard for it.

“We’re not reliant on any one person – it really has been a team effort.

“Both the Div 3 and Div 7 ladies have earned a home-ground semi-final this weekend.”

The club was going for the trifecta as the Division 8 women fought hard to gain fourth spot, needing a win over Jimboomba United to knock Loganholme out of the semis.

Their 1-1 draw wasn’t enough and the Bulls completed the season in fifth position.

Liz Ridley topped the goal-scoring for City’s Division 8 side.
